About Castledermot Local History Group
Castledermot Local History Group was formed in October 2010 by a small group of interested locals who recognised the rich and valuable history of the area. The monthly talks provide an opportunity to discuss and share that history and to raise awareness of other projects the committee has initiated, including the town becoming a member of the Irish Walled Town Network and the creation of a series of heritage panels for display in the town’s new community centre.
We have secured grants from the Heritage Council and the IWTN for the exhibition panels and also for the provision of Conservation, Management and Intrerpretation of Castledermot’s Medieval Town Walls. We continue to work both independantly and in conjunction with Castledermot Tidy Towns Committee to improve and enhance the experience of Castledermot’s heritage for locals and visitors alike.
