From the Plains of Kildare to the Glen of Imaal … 1899 & 1925

This story of Ireland’s premier military training terrain presented in an illustrated talk by Liam Kenny exploring how the UK War Dept. went to battle with the Wicklow sheep farmers to set up a firing range in the 1890s. And with an epilogue marking the first IRISH Army shoot in the Glen, just over a century ago.

Co Kildare locals will know of “the Glen” being almost a second home for soldiers in the county – both for permanent members and reserve personnel for whom the summer camp was a rite of passage.
