SUMMARY:St Mochua - Annual Feast Day
DESCRIPTION:Celbridge Historical Society\n\nTo Members of Celbridge Histori
cal Society and representatives of Clondalkin\, Timahoe and Rathcoffey his
tory groups\;\nYou are kindly invited to help us celebrate the St Mochua /
St Crónán Annual Feast Day event on Wednesday 6 August 2025 at 3pm: in
the Maunsell Chapel at Tea Lane Graveyard\, Celbridge.\n\n\n\nOur Chair\,
Penny Woods will introduce proceedings and we are delighted that\, as an a
cknowledged authority on St Mochua and related history\, Seamus Cullen*
has kindly agreed to give us a talk.\nThere will be an opportunity given f
or representatives of the Clondalkin\, Rathcoffey and Timahoe history grou
ps to speak if they wish.\n \nThis will be followed by a short walk to th
e village where refreshments will be offered in a lovely garden setting.\n
\n\n*Today the feast days of St Patrick and St Bridget\, who are both re
cognised as patron saints of Ireland\, are celebrated nationally on 17 Ma
rch and 1 February respectively.  Until the late medieval period local ea
rly-Christian missionaries were commemorated on their feast days\, in the
form of local festivals. One such 6th century missionary\, St Mochua\, als
o known as St Crónán\, is acknowledged as the local patron saint of four
different locations: Celbridge\, Clondalkin\, Rathcoffey and Timahoe. \n
\nSince the revival in 2004 of an event to mark the feast day of St Moch
ua / St Crónán on 6 August\, the four districts have taken it in turn to
hold the event. This year Celbridge is hosting the St Mochua Feast Day e
vent with a talk in the Maunsell Chapel in Tea Lane Graveyard\, adjacent t
o the site of the 6th century early Christian Church built by St Mochua.
  \n \nKindest regards\,\nNuala Walker\, Secretary\n\n\non behalf of Celb
ridge Historical Society\n\n\n\n\nOn a practical note\, parking is availab
le in Celbridge village - on the Main Street (free after 4pm)\; or at mode
st cost in car parks to the rear of several Main Street businesses.\n\nNo
parking available at Tea Lane Graveyard.\n\n
