  a talk by Seamus Cullen: 'Tales from a drowned valley: the flooding of th
 e Blessington Lake'.\n\n\n\n\n\n"At 10.00am on 3rd March 1940\, the sluice
  gate diverting the River Liffey around the Poulaphouca Dam was closed and
  the Poulaphouca Reservoir began to fill.\n\n6500 acres of land had been c
 leared to make way for the reservoir and 76 houses were lost to the floodw
 aters including the entirety of the townland of Ballinahown".\n
