The Maynooth 850 celebrations were launched by Maynooth University Historian, Professor Terence Dooley on February 9th. Prior to the launch the 2026 “Maynooth Through the Ages” lecture series was opened by Professor Eeva Leinonen, President of Maynooth University. The 2026 lecture series is a collaboration between Maynooth University, History Department and the Maynooth 850 Committee.

The Maynooth 850 Committee was established by the Maynooth Local History Group to devise and deliver the programme of activities for the celebration of this anniversary. A range of events are planned throughout 2026 including two lecture series, reenactments,exhibitions, walks as well as musical and drama events. It is intended that most of the events will be free for the public to attend, but will require tickets to be booked in advance to gain admittance. All events will be advertised closer to the dates that they are happening.
