County Kildare Federation of Local History Groups have been notified of the following fixed dates for two major history events occurring in County Kildare in 2024; the Irish Military Seminar and the Brigid’s World conference. Further details will be posted here in the news section at a later date when they are made available.
Irish Military Seminar 2024
The dates for the 2024 Irish Military Seminar taking place in the Riverbank, Newbridge, are the 10th and 11th of May.
National Heritage Week 2024
This year National Heritage Week will take place from the 17th to the 24th of August.
Brigid’s World Conference
This Brigid 1500 supported conference is taking place in Maynooth University and Kildare Town in September 2024. Dr Niamh Wycherley is putting together the programme and the dates have been confirmed (see below).
Title: Brigid’s World
Dates: September 13th to 15th 2024.
Short description: The life and times of St Brigid and her Church of Kildare from the 5th to the 9th centuries.
Outline programme:
Friday (approx. 10am to 5pm) and Saturday morning (10am to 1pm).
The format is of a standard conference and will be open to the general public.
Friday evening at 8pm: Public lecture specifically aimed at general enthusiasts.
Saturday afternoon: Public engagement event (to be finalised).
Sunday: Guided walking tour of Kildare town and Cathedral.
