Hidden and Erased – Writing Women Out Of History

Hidden and Erased – takes as its starting point, the treatment of Elizabeth O’Farrell in the iconic photograph of Pearse’s surrender to General Lowe on April 29th 1916 which was altered to erase her presence from this moment in history.

Irish Revolutionary Women; Histories, Memories and Legacies – Dr Mary McAuliffe UCD, will address how women were written out of the official history of the revolutionary period and how their stories are now being recovered and told.

From an Emigrant’s letter to discovering Dr Kathleen Lynn – Geraldine O’Reilly will speak about her interest in emigrant/famine/social history and her commission on Dr Kathleen Lynn.

On the Study of Science by Women’: Ellen Hutchins and her pioneering studies in cryptogamic botany – Kate Flood will tell the story of one of Ireland’s pioneering botanists.

Question and Answer Session
A Question & Answers session will follow and explore the ways in which to identify and acknowledge women as active players in the making of history.
