Unveiling of Information Panel to James O’Neill

A Commemorative Information Panel to James O’Neill, successor to James Connolly as head of the Irish Citizen Army and canvasser for the ITGWU, will be unveiled on Black Avenue, Leixlip, Co Kildare, within sight of the cottage of his birth, on SATURDAY 13TH MAY 2023 AT 12 NOON.

The formal unveiling will be done by the Deputy Mayor of Co Kildare, Joe Neville, a Leixlip man.  Other speakers will include the Parks Superintendant for Co Kildare, Simon Wallace; Des Geraghty, retired CEO of SIPTU, the successor in title to the ITGWU, for which James was a canvasser; and John Colgan, who researched and drafted the content of the panel.

Location/Directions

The location of the sign is at the top of Black Avenue, Leixlip. As this avenue may not be on SatNav, the approach to take by SatNav is to aim for Mill Lane, Leixlip (Mill Lane is the eastern extension of the Main Street). Once entered, take the first turn left then first right immediately at the side of the Fire Station. That is Black Avenue. Proceed to the top, there is a free carpark a few minutes walk beyond the site..  By public transport, take a bus to Leixlip Main Street and walk about 15 minutes to the site.
