Curragh Local History Group – Spring / Summer Programme 2015
Tuesday, 24th February: Memories/Memorabilia Evening. Join us and share your memories of the Curragh, if you have any old photos/artifacts we would love to see them.
Old band hall, opposite the Post Office, Curragh Camp at 8 pm.
Tuesday, 31st March 2015: An illustrated talk by Paul Cooke on Prince Edward’s visit to the Curragh in 1861 and his visit to Punchestown in 1868. Old band hall, opposite the Post Office, Curragh Camp at 8 pm.
Tuesday, 28th April 2015: An illustrated talk by Bill Gibson on the history of the Royal Curragh Golf Club. Old band hall, opposite the Post Office, Curragh Camp at 8 pm.
Tuesday, 26th May: AJ Mullowney will lead us in a walk on the Curragh to the WWI Trench Complex and explain the layout of the trenches and their purpose.
Directions to Trench Complex: Drive out of the Camp to Brownstown Inn. Turn LEFT at crossroads. Continue for 3.6k to entrance to The Curragh B&B on your RIGHT. Park on the LEFT hand side of the road.
The ground at the trench complex is rough in places and stout footwear is advised. You can also expect a certain amount of sheep manure on the ground so bring a change of footwear.
