The Dictionary of Irish Biography (DIB), a hugely important national and international resource for scholars of Irish society, history and culture, moved its digital corpus of nearly 11,000 biographical entries to a new purpose-built, free-to-access repository in mid-March 2021.
Since its launch in 2009, the DIB online has been available for institutions to purchase through a platform provided by Cambridge University Press (CUP), who also publish the hard copy volumes of the DIB (eleven to date).
In mid-March 2021, the DIB online moved to an ‘open access’ model, making the entire corpus freely available to all users at the following address: www.dib.ie
To highlight and celebrate the launch of this new resource, Kildare Library Services and the Kildare Decade of Commemorations Committee have organised an online lecture by Turlough O’Riordan, showcasing Kildare figures who feature in the Royal Irish Academy’s Dictionary of Irish Biography.
