Marking the centenary of the Foundation of Northern Ireland Dr Sean B Newman’s presentation – The ‘Ulsterian’ Revolution, and the Foundation of Northern Ireland, explores the ‘Ulsterian‘ identity – a national identity separate from both Britishness and Irishness – which underpinned a revolutionary movement.
Dr Ian D’alton in –‘Living with the enemy: the parallel Protestant state in independent Ireland‘ explores the strategies pursued by Southern Protestants as they came to terms with their civic and political powerlessness, and their use of social tools, economic power and cultural constructs, to create their own regional identity.
