The Annual General Meeting of the Kill History Group was held in the Parish Meeting Room on Monday last (28 January).
President of the Group is Miss Mabel Lyons and the following committee were elected for the forthcoming year: Chairman (Brian Mc Cabe); Vice-chairperson (Mary Coyle); Secretary (Dave Carroll); Treasurer (Ann O’Sullivan); Webmaster (John Malone) and Youth Officer (David Browne).
The meeting also heard a most interesting talk by Dr Chris Browne entitled “Civil War Surgery”.
The talk was based on original research by Dr Browne into the old records in the former Army Military Hospital on the Curragh. It covered the range of operations and procedures carried out there in the early 1920s, as the Civil War was raging. Dr Browne gave examples of some of the more colourful events during that period and the sort of primitive instruments employed by medical personnel in those far off days.
The next meeting of the Group will take place on Monday 25th February at 8.30 p.m.
