Evidence of human settlement has been found at the Yew Tree cemetery.

These people are termed the River Ford Culture by Meyer.

The Dolmen in Grangebeg was in use at this time.

Neolithic Period (New Stone Age)

The first Farmers move up the Barrow Valley. The fords at the Yew Tree, the Pass Bridge, the Slip,  Portmonaher, and Belan become hugely important sites in the Neolithic landscape.

Deforestation by these farmers causes the peat bogs to begin to form.

The use of bronze technology reaches Ireland. Cemetery in Nurney in use by the western most of 15 related communities that stretched from the Red Hills to Knockaillinne.
