This event will attempt to place St Brigid in a wider European context.
Sr Rita Minehan of the Brigidine Sisters and author of Rekindling the Flame – Pilgrimage in the Footsteps of Brigid of Kildare, will give a talk on the role of Irish Missionaries in promoting devotion to St Brigid across Europe.
Dr Bairbe Ní Fhloin will give a talk exploring the folklore traditions associated with St Brigid, referencing her place in the traditional calendar and devotion to the Kildare Saint in Ireland, Britain, and continental Europe.
Monica de Bath, a local artist, will give a short presentation on the work of archaeologist Marija Gimbutas. She will also facilitate a workshop on the making of straw “Biddy dolls”.
This event will take place in Rathangan Community Library on Saturday, November 11th, 2023, from 10am to 1pm.
