Jim Tancred

It is with great sadness that I share the news with you all that Jim Tancred died this morning in Tallaght Hospital.

Jim was exceptional. A truly fine local historian who knew the landscape and people intimately. He knew everyone! He was a very gentle, modest man – his greatest joy was in helping others in their research. He loved to visit the National Library and the Registry of Deeds and would delve into history with great enthusiasm. A native of Ardclough, he often spoke of his school teacher there, Mrs Maguire. It was she who inspired him and gave him his love of history.

Dear Jim was known and beloved by many, he will be so greatly missed. We will circulate details of his funeral when the information comes to hand.

May he rest in peace.
