Description

Celbridge Historical Society is the local history group for the north Kildare Liffeyside estate town of Celbridge, the location of Ireland’s finest Palladian mansion, Castletown House, as well as many other fine Neo-classical houses. Settlement in the area dates back much further, however, as is reflected in the many heritage sites, including two early medieval ecclesiastical foundations located at Tea Lane cemetery (Kildrought, associated with St Mochua), and Donaghcumper, the town’s main contemporary cemetery, which incorporates a late medieval church ruins likely on the site of an early medieval foundation of the 5th century.

Celbridge Historical Society was formed on January 21st 2002 by a group of enthusiasts including Catherine Boylan, Maura Gallagher, Maureen Hassett, Ann McNeill, Agnes Walsh, Jean McGeeny and others.

Celbridge Historical Society usually meets on the first Monday of each month in Celbridge Community library, although other dates and venues are also used.

Visit the Celbridge Historical Society section on this website for more information.
