Kilcullen Town Hall
First meeting was held on the 2nd March, 1930. First minutes are on display in the Heritage Centre. President was Fr. Moynihan.
In November 1933 the Town Hall was officially opened. Although it had a troubled early history, the Town Hall has for the last 80 years been the hub of social activity for the entire community.
From 1941 to 1976 it functioned as a successful Cinema with an entire generation entertained there. Boxing tournaments, live shows and drama productions were also held. With the advent of videos, local cinemas were no longer viable and the Town Hall fell into disrepair. Under the guidance of local trustees the Town Hall was renovated in 1994.
In 1999 a major overhaul took place with the addition of the Heritage Centre. The building was opened to coincide with the arrival of the New Millennium, which was ushered in with a massive street party. The redevelopment was spearheaded by, local garage owner, Pat Dunlea.
Funds came from the Department of Arts, Hertiage, Gaeltach and The Islands, The local Drama Group, the Kilcullen Development Association and the local community. Through a stroke of genius Pat also managed to get the support of Volvo, who donated the luxurious car seats now in use in the auditorium.
Today the Town Hall houses the Heritage Centre, is the home for a very active Drama Group who are in existence for over 83 years and the Heritage Group.
It is used by a multitude of groups, not only from within the community but also from the wider Kildare area and is administered by a company limited by guarantee with directors drawn from the community groups with an interest in using the hall regularly.
