Call for Papers – Irish Women in the First World War Era

The Women’s History Association of Ireland (WHAI) welcome papers and panel proposals for the 2015 annual conference, Irish Women in the First World War Era, to be held at Maynooth University, April 10th and 11th 2015.

The WHAI welcome abstracts on the experience of Irish women between 1914 and 1918, considering the wartime experience but not limited to the conflict. Individual papers and panels of no more than three speakers could consider the following topics:
– The impact of the war on women on the home front
– Women’s involvement in auxiliary services
– Women on the front lines
– Women’s activism
– Suffrage
– Pacifism
– Anti-war activism
– Labour organisation/agitation
– Nationalism
– Unionism
– Philanthropy
– International networks/associations
– Women’s wartime employment
– Emigrants
– Women’s auxiliary services
– Women in Ulster/women north and south
If proposing a panel, please suggest a title which encapsulates the connecting theme of the proposed papers. Panels of postgraduate students are most welcome.
Deadline for receipt of Abstracts: November 30th 2014.
