The Kildare Council of Comhaltas Ceolteoiri is marking its 50th anniversary this year – a period in which it is added greatly to the musical culture of the County.
Coinciding with Fleadh Cheoil Chill Dara which takes place in Clane this week the Kildare Council of CCÉ have a number of events of interest to local historians.
Comhaltas in Kildare have maintained an impressive archive of its events and news through the years and a display of this material provides an insight into a perhaps under studied facet of the county’s cultural history.
For the historian some of the Fleadh’s Wednesday events are of note:
Wednesday, 17 May
7pm History walk of Clane with Brendan Cullen – Meet Manzors Car Park
After, a slide show of 50 years of CCÉ in Kildare, Upstairs lounge in Clane GAA starting at 8pm.
And during the week Clane will be hopping to all the jigs and reels of the County Fleadh.
