Message from Co. Kildare’s New Heritage Officer

Hello from the new Heritage officer!

Hello everybody, just wanted to say hello as the new Heritage Officer for Kildare. I am delighted to be in the role and look forward to working with, and learning from, all the local history groups in the county. I will be recommencing the Heritage News updates in the near future but wanted to contact you to briefly introduce myself and to remind you all of two upcoming deadlines that may be of interest:

Community Heritage Grant Scheme – Kildare County Council

Many of you may already be considering applying for this grant, this grant closes for applications Friday 14th of March- it covers all sorts of heritage projects and is ideal if you are hoping to run an event during National Heritage Week.

Adopt a Monument | The Heritage Council

The closing date to apply for this scheme is March 21st. We have one Kildare monument to date (the lovely Dunmanogue Church in the south of the county) and it would be great to get a few more monuments adopted – so, my ask is that every Local History Group has a look at the scheme and would consider choosing a monument in their area.

One or other issue I want to raise early in the year is that we will be undertaking the process of making a new five year Heritage Plan for the county. This will be done via the Heritage Forum (with all the public consultation procedures that you would expect) in the second half of the year, so get your thinking caps on for what you would like to see in (or out) of the new plan!

Kind regards

Dara Wyer
