Services

When the Services came to Maynooth – text by Paul Croghan

• As part of the Dublin No. 2 District, Maynooth was connected to the electricity network in 1929 with forty homes being connected and serving a population of eight hundred and forty-six people

• In “Recollections – Memories by Maynooth Senior Citizens, comments were made that the “well to do” started buying electric equipment. But it would be close to 1940 before everyone was connected

• Public water had been provided since the late 1920s as well

• It would be 1959 before the village was connected to a public water and sewage scheme

• Again in Recollections, comments include that water came out of the tap in 1959 and a year later there was a sewage pipe coming through the garden
