Like elsewhere in Ireland many men found work on the local Estate.
By the 1920s Carton was operating within tight financial circumstances which even saw the plan to withdraw the “Harvest Bonus”.
Manor Mills was also giving good employment particularly at harvest times.
St. Patrick’s College was also a source of local employment for local men and women.
The 1901 Census records 24 ladies working in the Laundry and their job described as Laundress.
Like other towns in North Kildare, there isn’t a large Industrial base in Maynooth.
Some key projects such as the building of Leixlip ESB Station gave temporary works.
Proximity to Dublin meant that people could find work in the city.
