• Schools can be traced back in Maynooth to 1702 evidenced by a stone tablet in the wall of the parish church noting an original school on that site

• Maynooth Charter School was founded in 1749 on land provided by the Fitzgeralds. It was run by a society that promoted Protestant schools in Ireland 

• Presentation Sisters arrived from Dublin in 1823. The Presentation Girls School dates from 1831, first girls school to be funded by the Board of Education which was set up that year to develop state run schools acceptable to both Catholics and Protestants families

• St. Mary’s Boys School can be traced by to 1824

• A Church of Ireland School opened in 1859 in the building now known as the Geraldine Hall which is restored as the front part of the Maynooth Scouts building in the Harbour area

• Maynooth Post- Primary filling the gap between Primary and University opened in 1971. Followed in 2014 by Maynooth Community College

• Gaelscoil Ui Fhiaich opened in 1996 with Gaelscoil Ruairi starting in 2019 and for post-primary Gaelcholaiste Mhaigh Nuad opening in 2020

• Maynooth Educate Together opened in 2008

• Stepping Stones special school opened in Maynooth in 2022
