Overview
Dún Ailinne – Ceremonial enclosure (KD028-038001-)
Dún Ailinne, on Knockaulin hill just outside of Kilcullen in Co. Kildare, was a major Iron Age place of ritual that fell out of use around the time of Christianity’s introduction into Ireland. Indeed, Old Kilcullen, on the next hill to the southeast, is thought to have been one of the earliest Christian sites in Ireland and was likely established in opposition to the pre-Christian rituals held at Dún Ailinne.
